Sources & methodology

Where our electrical opportunities come from, and how we score them.

No magic, no scraped mystery lists. Everything we surface starts as a public record you could look up yourself. We just find it, organize it, and tell you why it matters.

Only public records

Every opportunity comes from public government data, the kind anyone can request, but nobody enjoys digging through. We watch for signals of real commercial electrical scope: service and amperage upgrades, panelboard and switchgear replacements, new power distribution, lighting, EV charging, and legally-compelled repairs.

  • Commercial building & electrical permit filings
  • Open electrical code violations (forced repairs on a clock)
  • Property sales & ownership changes
  • New commercial business registrations
  • Open commercial bids & solicitations

Today the commercial electrical permit feed and the open electrical code violation feed for Cook County (Chicago), IL are staged and ready to activate. We’re adding counties and source types metro by metro as electricians come on board, one verified feed at a time.

We do the digging

Those records are scattered across county portals, procurement sites, and property databases, posted in formats nobody likes, and they go stale within days. We check them on a schedule, pull the ones with real commercial electrical scope, and hand them to you, so you’re not losing mornings to government websites.

AI scores every one, honestly

Each record is read by AI that judges whether there’s genuine electrical scope, scores the opportunity from 0 to 100, and writes a short, plain-English “why this matters” using only the facts in the record. It never invents an owner, a dollar amount, or a scope of work, and it never tells you that you’ll win the job. When it’s unsure, it says so and flags the item for a human look rather than dressing it up.

Every opportunity carries its source

We show you the public record and the date behind every single opportunity, so you can click through and verify it yourself in seconds. If we can’t cite it, we don’t show it. That’s the whole point: you should never have to take our word for it.

Sometimes that link is a direct permit or violation record; sometimes it’s a lookup into the county’s own official records system, pre-filled to the exact parcel. Either way it points at the government source of record, not a screenshot, not our copy of it, so you can confirm every detail yourself.

We’d rather show you nothing than pad the feed

If a scan turns up little, your feed is short, and that’s a feature, not a bug. We discard the records that aren’t a real fit instead of inflating the list to look busy, and we’ll tell you plainly when a week is quiet. We’re also not a lead auction: we don’t exist to sell the same call to five shops the way the consumer platforms do. Unlike our HVAC product, Electrician Scout is non-exclusive by design: more than one electrical contractor in a county can subscribe, and we’re upfront about that.
